When I covered this topic with my son's we mainly focused on male and female relationships, however, this subject has another component. When we choose a mate, it can also be looked at from these stand points:

husband/wife
mentor/mentee, etc.....
The bottom line here is that the people that we decide to be with in our day to day dealings, will have a significant bearing on who we are and what we eventually will become.
